Thanks to lefty Chris Salamida, the Winnipeg Goldeyes have won another series. In Game 2 of a doubleheader (of sorts) in front of 1,390 in Sioux City, Iowa, on Thursday night, Salamida tossed a brilliant three-hit shutout with no walks and six strikeouts to lead the Goldeyes to a 1-0 victory over the Sioux City Explorers. With the win, the Goldeyes won the four-game series in Sioux City, three-games-to-one and will return home to play a three-game weekend series against the Kansas City T-Bones with a record of 45-38. As well, with a rainout between Gary and Wichita, the Goldeyes remained 2 1/2 games back of Gary in the wild card hunt. In the first game on Thursday – the completion of a game suspended by rain on Wednesday night -- the Explorers expanded on a 5-4 pre-rainout lead and whipped the Goldeyes 9-4. "We came out flat in the first game and it carried over a little to the second game," said pitching coach Jamie Vermilyea. "Fortunately we had Salamida, who threw a three-hit shutout. He was great tonight." After three straight victories, the Goldeyes were stopped in their tracks in the suspended game (Game 1) on Thursday, but because of Salamidas brilliance, the Fish took the nightcap and won their eighth series in the last nine. The Goldeyes went 8-2 against Sioux City this season. In Game 2 on Thursday, the Goldeyes scored their only run off Sioux City starter Preston Olsen in the third. Luis Alen singled, went to second on a sacrifice bunt by Kevin Moesquit, moved over to third on a single by Fehlandt Lentini and scored on a sacrifice fly by Amos Ramon. Salamida (4-0, 2.48 ERA) was the winning pitcher, while Olsen (1-5, 6.26 ERA) took the loss. Yurendell de Caster went three-for-three and raised his batting average to .400 to lead the Goldeyes at the plate. In Game 1, the Explorers scored two runs in the third, three in the fourth and two more in the fifth and then added two more eighth as they put a halt to the Goldeyes three-game winning streak. The Goldeyes were held to just seven hits. Ryan Scoma had a two-run homer in three trips. Scoma is now hitting .364. Reliever Chris Bodishbaugh (3-1, 1.86 ERA) was the winning pitcher for the Explorers while Pete Gehle (4-7, 5.01 ERA) suffered the loss for Winnipeg. The Goldeyes returned home right after tonights second game and will open a three-game weekend series against the Kansas City T-Bones Friday night at Shaw Park. Matt Rusch (5-3, 4.26 ERA), on short rest, will get the start for the Goldeyes. Javier Baez Jersey . Once again Jordan Cieciwa (@FitCityJordan) and I (@LynchOnSports) go head to head in our picks. Now, correct me if Im wrong but I saw one official distinctly pointing at the net indicating a good goal but after an inconclusive review they overturned the goal. Shouldnt the ruling on the ice (good goal) stand after an inconclusive review? Why was this overturned? James Veaudry Pembroke, ON -- Hey Kerry, Youll get a lot of these, but why was the Montreal goal against Nashville Saturday night overturned? Eller puts the puck on net and the on ice ruling from the ref behind the net is a Montreal goal. Albert Almora Jr. Jersey . SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- After struggling in the first few weeks of the season to find their patented offensive rhythm, the San Antonio Spurs are once again making it miserable for opposing teams.Pau Gasol had 24 points and nine rebounds to lead a balanced offense for the Spurs in a 110-105 victory over the Sacramento Kings on Wednesday night.LaMarcus Aldridge scored 21 points and Kawhi Leonard added 20 for the Spurs, who won their fourth straight and improved to 6-0 on the road this season. Tony Parker had 14 points and seven rebounds. We didnt have that level of awareness and we werent moving the ball as much as we should have been early in the season, Gasol said. Were at our best when were moving the ball, creating an energy and flow that carries over to the defensive end. Thats been the staple of this team for so long.Sharing the basketball and frequently finding the open man for a good look, the Spurs had a season-high 29 assists and shot 49 percent. San Antonio has recorded 20 or more assists during its winning streak.Perhaps its no coincidence the winning streak has taken place after Parker returned from a sore right knee that caused the veteran point guard to miss three straight games. He was directing the offense against the Kings and frequently finding an open teammate. The key for us is moving the ball and making sure everyone is involved offensively, Parker said. The last four games were really been finding our rhythm. We have a lot of weapons. An offseason free-agent signing, Gasol is definitely one of those options. The crafty veteran center scored nine points in the opening quarter and had 16 by halftime, helping the Spurs take a 57-46 lead at the break. Its not something I try to do, I just take the shots when they come to me, said Gasol, who shot 10 for 17. Teammates found me early tonight and I was able to be effective.DeMarcus Cousins had 26 points, 17 rebounds and six assists for the Kings, who dropped their third straight game. Matt Barnes had 15 points and Ben McLemore, Willie Cauley-Stein and Rudy Gay each added 11.Were making it harrd on ourselves right now, Cousins said.dddddddddddd We gotta come out with better energy and a better effort. Its on us if we want to turn this around. Its nobodys fault but ours.Guarded much of the game by Leonard, Gay shot just 3 for 11 after entering the game averaging 22.3 points. The Spurs took the lead for good in the second quarter and led by as many as 18 points before going to the reserves late in the fourth quarter. The Kings eventually cut the lead to four points on Cousins two free throws with 8.7 seconds remaining. However, Davis Bertans made a free throw and the Kings missed two shots to end the game.TIP INSSpurs: Danny Green was back in the starting lineup despite a groin injury Monday against Miami. He has spoken openly about his feelings on the election and held nothing back again in a pregame interview.Somebody asked me and I told the truth of what I felt. I still feel the same way, Popovich said. Its still a disorienting situation when you thought you lived in a certain kind of country with certain values and find out those values arent important to half the country.I thought with all the divisiveness in the election, all the groups that President-elect Trump disparaged the best way to start was not to worry about Obamacare or talk about Wall Street or anything else. But that didnt happen. That was my hope.UP NEXTSpurs: At the Los Angeles Lakers on Friday night.Kings: Host the Los Angeles Clippers on Friday night. ' ' '
